18 - Summer trend

Usually I pay no attention to trends whatsoever.
As you can read in the ‘Triple dog dare’ I recently tried to add more colors to my clothes.
One of the things that I wear now are red pants.
Two days after making that prompt I discovered that I’m actually following a summer trend by wearing those pants! ;-)

Natty challenged us to add sewing/stitching to our journal.
I didn’t entirely follow the technique she showed, but I did something similar instead.
After making holes in a red piece of paper with a punch perforator, I passed a silver-colored ribbon through it.

17 - Summer takes flight

In the summertime there are lots of different insects.
I like to photograph them in the garden.

16 - Summer rain

Summer time isn’t always about sunshine.
For me ‘summer rain’ brings freshness and makes nature show its beautiful colors.

The photographs were taken in the garden after a rain shower J

15 - In the summer time, I just HAVE to…

Is there something I do every summer, no matter what?
Yes, there is J
Eat vanilla ice cream with strawberries! Yummie!

Scan

Photograph

On the scan you can see the sunny colors, but on the photograph you can better see that the ‘blue sun’ shines when you hold it in the light.

During the making of this prompt I learned a lot about coloring my page with watercolour pencils (yellow and pink) and blue ink.
I’m pretty happy with the result :-)
During the next prompts I will practice this as it is a lot of fun!

14 - Triple dog dare

For years I did only wear black and blue clothes.
That was till I learned of my allergy to those colors.
Wearing a lot of brown now, I think it’s time to add some color to it.
I’ve never ever wanted to wear red, but sometimes you have to give something a go. That’s what I did. And I like it J

13 - Summer wishlist

What’s on my shopping list this summer?

Natty challenged us to use junk mail envelopes as windows.
Since I just threw them all away to recycle, I had to wait a few days to make this prompt J
I have to admit that I never thought of using envelopes to create windows.
It also turned out that some envelopes have a special print on the inside. For the next prompt I did use one of those prints.

12 - Stay cool

My favorite ways to stay cool in the high temperatures?

Natty challenged us to only use splatters when painting the background.
Now I have to admit that I’ve never liked painting. I’ve always preferred to color with pencils.
Thus I don’t have paint at my home. That’s why I’ve been looking for something else. Since I don’t write with a fountain pen anymore, I used some ink that was left:

And I have to admit: it was fun to do this J
I even consider to get some painting material.
Thanks Natty to show your techniques and let us discover new things every day ;-)

11 - Take a vacation!

For this prompt we had to use design elements from a music video:

For the colors and forms I was mainly inspired by these frames:

To turn my digital photographs into Polaroid-lookalikes I used Poladroid, a fun little program.

WEEK 1 & 2

The pages of the first two weeks all together:

10 - Student feature

As Natalie says: there’s no better way to learn than to learn from each other. That’s why she lets students introduce their work in the so-called ‘student features’.
Last week it was Bad Hausfrau who presented her art journaling skills.
She showed different ways to use photos in art journals.
As I really liked her example of a photograph that was printed onto sheet music, I tried to do something similar. But as you can still see a whole piece of Bach through it, I won't place it here (to avoid copyright issues ;-)).

9 - In the summer I feel...

What do I feel when the sun shines brightly?

To feel the “crazy vibes” listen to Selah Sue:

8 - Summer date ideas

A few ideas for a good summer date:

7 - Summer movie blockbusters

I chose for a mix of my favorite movies and a list of the movies I went to see in the movie theatre when I was a student.
As I had lots of tickets I did hide them in different places on the 2 pages:

Hiding places:

6 - Ideal vacation spots

If I could go anywhere for my vacation, where would I go?

5 - Alter ego

If I could be anybody, what kind of person would I be?

4 - I want my summer to be full of...

I want my summer days filled with:

3 - Gel medium & tissue

As I don’t have this material (gel medium) I didn’t do this one.
Maybe I’ll catch up later.

2 - Self-portrait

Describing myself as I am, at this moment:

If you want to listen to the song (left on the page):

I have absolutely no intentions of a singing career ;-)
I know I don't sing too well, but it's just fun to hear a melody by a written song :-)

1 - Introduction

First I made a front page:

Followed by an introduction to my journal:

IN THE SUN

Earlier this week I discovered the online course In the sun.
It looked like a lot of fun and that’s why I’m following it now.
So, for the first time in my life I’m making an ‘art journal’.
In the weeks to come I’ll be posting my creations here.
I hope you will enjoy!
